Misophonia is more than irritation: it's a powerful emotional response to everyday sounds like chewing, breathing, or pen-clicking. These triggers, often subtle and created by people, can provoke intense feelings of anger, disgust, or anxiety. Although not formally recognized in the DSM-5, misophonia is increasingly acknowledged by clinicians as a legitimate and debilitating condition.

Individuals with misophonia often understand that their reactions are disproportionate, yet still feel overwhelmed, sometimes even to the point of aggressive outbursts. Research suggests these intense reactions may come from unhelpful beliefs like thinking the sounds are done on purpose or are rude. Repetitive, negative thinking can make these feelings even stronger over time, leading to a cycle of distress and avoidance.

But what if the path to relief could start with something as simple as a smartphone app?
